Celebrating the Unsung Heroes of Science: A Visit to the Science Museum Technician Exhibition

Hello everyone,

I hope this post finds you well and as excited about the wonders of science as I am! Last weekend, I had the pleasure of visiting the Science Museum’s Technician Exhibition, which was fantastic.

This exhibition was a refreshing reminder of the backbone of our scientific endeavours – the technicians and the important role they play in the day-to-day business of science.

Walking through the exhibition, I was struck by the sheer diversity of skills and expertise on display. From the meticulous preparation of samples to the maintenance of complex machinery, technicians are the unsung heroes who keep the wheels of science turning. Their work might not always make the headlines, but without their dedication and precision, our groundbreaking discoveries would remain out of reach.

One exhibit that particularly caught my eye was a chance to have a go at a virtual welding set. I will not reveal how I did, but I am glad I did not have to submit the weld for qualification.

It is easy to overlook the importance of these roles, but the exhibition made it clear that technicians are the glue that holds the scientific community together. They bridge the gap between theory and practice, ensuring that our hypotheses can be evaluated and our results validated. It is great to see these roles highlighted to the next generation who will soon be entering the job market.

As we continue to meet our clients’ requirements with best in industry service, let us take a moment to appreciate the invaluable contributions of our technicians. Their hard work and expertise are the foundation upon which our successes are built.

So, next time you walk through our lab, take a moment to thank a technician. Their dedication deserves our recognition and gratitude.

Until next time, keep exploring and stay curious!
